Willie B. Evans Wade Craton, 96, of McRae died peacefully on Wednesday, August 25, following a brief illness. A funeral service will be held at 11:00A.M., Saturday, August 28, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with burial at Telfair Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Friday, 6:00-8:00P.M.
A native of Atlanta, Mrs. Craton was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah Conley Evans and was the wife of the late Albert Foster Craton. She was a lifelong member and the oldest member of McRae First Baptist Church and was a legal secretary and bookkeeper, having worked with Lamar Murdaugh, Telfair County Sheriff's Office and Walker Concrete Pipe Company. Mrs. Craton was also the first female radio dispatcher in the state with Georgia State Patrol Post 16. She began working with the state of Georgia at the age of 16 and was a member of the Telfair Chapter of Eastern Star #323.
Survivors include her children, Lois (Marshall) Baker of Locust Grove, Frances (Larry) Bell of Glenwood, Tollie B. Wade, Jr. of McRae and Marion (Carey) Clark of Alamo; stepdaughter, Shirley Craton of Norcross; grandchildren, Gayle Thrower (Johnny) Rej, Jason Bell, Robert (Dequera) Bell, Thomas (Heather) Bell, Sarah Bell, Christy Clark (Tommy) Wray and Adam Clark; and great-grandchildren, Beatrice, Dottie, Mercedes, Matthew, Mariah, Landon, Lockland, Luke, Calleigh, Ella, Paisley, Jonah, Loren and Taylor.
