Joseph Vernon Lewis, 75, of McRae, died Thursday, May 27, following a brief illness. A funeral service will be held at 10:00A.M., Saturday, May 29, at Macedonia Baptist Church with burial at Kinnett Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, from 6:00 - 8:00P.M.
A native and lifelong resident of Telfair County, Mr. Lewis was the son of the late Isaac Terrell Lewis and the late Naomi Hulett Lewis. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of Vietnam and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. A loving steward of the land God provided for him, Mr. Lewis loved God, his wife, children and grandchildren, loved his neighbors and his church, but he also loved farming, fishing, camping and traveling. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sudie Lewis Dorris.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, June Griffin Lewis of McRae; children, David Vernon (Beth) Lewis of Milan, Terry Samuel (Jennifer) Lewis of McRae; D. Russell (Christy) Lewis of Baxley and Karla (Joe) Elton of McRae; brother, Alvin (Peggy) Lewis of Milan; grandchildren, Hunter Lewis, Keegan Lewis, Taylor Lewis, Reagan Lewis, James Peacock, Adisyn Lewis, Griffin Lewis, Brylee Elton, Douglas Lewis and Nora Kate Elton; and great-grandchild, Saylor Brown.
