Susan Carpenter Hamilton, 88, of Milan passed peacefully on Thursday, March 24, following a lengthy illness. A funeral service will be held at 2:00P.M., Sunday, March 27, at Milan Baptist Church with burial at Milan Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday, 5:00-7:00P.M., at Vaughn Funeral Home, McRae.
A native and lifelong resident of Milan, Mrs. Hamilton was the daughter of the late J.D. and Deb Pipkin Carpenter. She taught school at both Dodge and Telfair schools and was later a principal at Telfair. Mrs. Hamilton was a member of Milan Baptist Church where she was a choir member until her health prevented it. She enjoyed her years in education and volunteered at schools, reading to students. She was a member of the Red Hatters and the Telfair-Wheeler Retired Educators, but her favorite thing was spending time with her family and cooking family dinners. Mrs. Hamilton was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Bartley Hamilton and a daughter, Kimberly Hamilton Smith.
Survivors include her son, David (Nicole) Hamilton of Brunswick; grandchildren, Marli (Danny) Howell of Eastman, Coy Hamilton Smith and Mattie Hamilton, both of Brunswick; great-grandchildren, Branch Howell and Gray Howell; sister-in-law, Seaby Jones; longtime family friends, Connie and Winky Lann and Marsha Sage; and caretakers, Linda Tobler and Rhonda Spires.
