Dorothy (Anderson) Bland

Dorothy Anderson Bland, 96, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, September 22, following a lengthy illness.  A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00A.M., Thursday, September 24, at Oak Grove Cemetery, McRae, GA.

A native and lifelong resident of Telfair County, Mrs. Bland was the daughter of the late Walter Scott Anderson and the late Mary Elizabeth Cravey Anderson, and the wife of the late James Julian Bland, Sr.  She was a retired registered nurse, having graduated from South Georgia College with a nursing degree, and was a member of National Nurses Association.  Mrs. Bland had worked with a number of area hospitals and nursing homes, including VA Medical Center of Dublin and the Lumber City Nursing Home where she was Director of Nursing.  She was preceded in death by sons, James Julian Bland, Jr., Walter A. “Buck” Bland, Johnny E. Bland and Robert H. Bland; grandsons, James Scott Bland and Robert “Burt” Bland; and brothers and sisters, J.C. Anderson, Tom Anderson, Dovie A. Garrison, Sue A. Smith, Louise A. Brewer and Mattie A. Williams.

Survivors include a son, Roy A. Bland, Sr. of Douglas; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
