Wynelle Bowen, a beloved member of the Jacksonville community and a homemaker, was born on October 5, 1933, in Telfair County, Georgia. She peacefully passed away at her residence in Jacksonville, Georgia, on January 28, 2026. Wynelle's life was marked by her unwavering kindness and devotion to her family and community, qualities that left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
A dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Wynelle is survived by her daughters, Constance B. Johnson of Wray and Rhonda Bowen of Jacksonville. She also cherished her role as a BigMama to Eric (Arly) Pridgen and Amy (Andrew) Bellah, and she took great joy in the company of her six great-grandchildren. Her sisters, Marian (Wimbric) Padgett of Milan and Harriett Branch of Hazlehurst, will also remember her fondly, as will many nieces, nephews and friends.
Wynelle was predeceased by her husband, Herbert J. Bowen, as well as her parents, Guy Powell and Minnie Lee Powell. Throughout her life, she enjoyed a variety of hobbies, from crocheting while praying, to working in her garden, where she found great joy nurturing her beloved daylilies. Her talent for crafting extended to creating beautiful baby blankets, afghans, and lap blankets that she generously gifted to friends and family.
An avid puzzle enthusiast, she enjoyed putting together puzzles and engaging with word search puzzles, finding peace and fulfillment in these activities. In her earlier years, sewing brought her joy, further showcasing her creative spirit.
Wynelle enjoyed St. Paul Holiness Church, where she attended regularly, embodying the values of her faith through her actions and her compassion.
Her family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Vaughn Funeral Home, McRae. A funeral service will be held the following day, Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Holiness Church, located at 4878 U.S. 441, Jacksonville, GA 31544, allowing family and friends to celebrate Wynelle's remarkable life and legacy together. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
Wynelle Bowen will be profoundly missed by her family and friends, whose lives she touched with her gentle spirit and kind heart.
