Willie Alton Swain, Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Lumber City, Georgia, on June 6, 2026. Born on April 27, 1956, in Roswell, New Mexico, Willie lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and an enduring lively spirit.
Willie devoted many years to his work at Griffin's Warehouse, where he was respected for his strong work ethic and steadfast commitment to providing for his family. He was known affectionately among colleagues as the man who “held down the forklift,” a testament to his reliability and skill. Beyond this, he previously contributed his talents to Amercord and Dodge Heating and Air, and he held a Technical Degree in HVAC. Willie was also a dedicated member of the Horse Creek Volunteer Fire Department, where his service reflected his commitment to his community.
Those who knew Willie best remember him for his vibrant personality, his quick wit, and the laughter he brought to every gathering. Whether sharing stories, exchanging jokes with family and friends, or arriving with one of his many unexpected ideas, Willie created lasting memories for all who crossed his path. He expressed his love in a unique and personal way, a depth of care and devotion deeply felt by those closest to him.
Willie’s passions extended beyond his work and community service. He cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren, particularly enjoying hunting outings with his grandsons. He also had a love for gardening and delighted when his grandchildren brought him fish to clean and enjoy.
He leaves behind his devoted children: Becky (Sean) Isom of Helena, Jennifer (Dustin) Melvin of McRae, and Christy (Michael) Dykes of Milan. Sister, Teresa (John) McDonald of Birmingham, AL; birth father, Willie Alton Swain, Sr. of Perry, also survive him. Willie was a proud grandfather to Ashley (Jed) White of Rhine, Andrew Yawn (Lauren) of Milledgeville, Charles Allen (Marcie) of China Hill, Bella Melvin of McRae, and Sawyer and Kelsie Dykes, both of Milan. He was lovingly anticipating the arrival of his first great-grandchild, Baylor Kate White, due in September. Alongside his human family, Willie’s beloved dog, Lola, provided constant companionship and joy. Additionally, an aunt, Brenda Varnadoe of Warner Robins, as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends, mourn his passing and celebrate his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Carlton Holt, Sr. and Joyce Ann Brewer Holt, and his brother, Carl Holt.
A visitation will be held at Vaughn Funeral Home, McRae, Monday, June 8, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The graveside service will be held at 11:00A.M., Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Riverside Cemetery, Highway 117, Lumber City.
Though deeply saddened by his passing, Willie’s family finds comfort in the profound love, joyful laughter, and treasured memories he leaves behind. He will forever be remembered with respect and fondness, his legacy carried forward by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
His family may be contacted at the home of his oldest daughter, Becky Isom, 855 W. Golden Isles Hwy, Helena, GA 31037.
