Willie Wendell Grimes

Willie Wendell Grimes, born December 4, 1948, in Wheeler County, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026. He was 77.

Wendell’s life was defined by steadfast dedication to his Christian values and the family he held dear. Born to E.H. Grimes and Mary Anna Moore Grimes, both of whom preceded him in death, Wendell grew up with a strong sense of kinship and responsibility that carried through every chapter of his life.

He was a devoted husband to the late Sheryl Bass Grimes, cherishing their marriage and finding joy in the life they built together. The memory of his beloved wife remained a source of warmth and strength throughout his days.

Wendell’s greatest legacy was his loving family. He is survived by four sons: Glenn Grimes and his wife, Stacy, of McRae, Scott Grimes and his wife, Deborah, of McRae, Donnie Grimes and his wife, Kirsten, of Woodstock, and Mark Grimes and his wife, Amy, of McRae; two daughters, Sara Brown and her husband, Kevin and Kimberly White and her husband, Larry, both of McRae; his daughter-in-law, Charlene Grimes of Talking Rock; and his sister, Carolyn Laughman of Macon. Their lives have been shaped and enriched by Wendell’s love, guidance, and unwavering support. He is also preceded in death by his son, Kevin Grimes.

His Christian life was a testimony to others, as he led by example, in faith, love and service. The depth of Wendell’s relationships with his family and the gentle humor and kindness he extended to all will be the lasting memory for those who loved him. The pride he took in his children and the joy he shared with his grandchildren were evident in every smile and every story told at family gatherings.

Wendell’s presence in the community was marked by quiet generosity and an enduring commitment to helping others. While the details of his career and community service are not outlined here, it is clear through those who survive him that he leaves behind a legacy of integrity, resilience, and love.
