Waymon Sanford LaFavor

Waymon Sanford LaFavor, 83, of McRae, died Friday, August 10.  Funeral services will be at 4:00P.M., Sunday, August 12, at Chauncey Baptist Church with burial in the Telfair Memorial Gardens.  Visitation is Saturday, 6:00-9:00P.M.

A native of Wheeler County and longtime resident of Telfair County, Mr. LaFavor was the son of the late Simmie S. and Essie Mae Selph LaFavor.  An Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was active in the local American Legion, was treasurer of the Telfair Veterans’ Association and for many years was Post Commander of the local VFW.  Mr. LaFavor served as Telfair County’s Chief Deputy for four years, served as Justice of the Peace, and was the owner and operator of LaFavor’s Standard Oil and Chevron Station for more than 40 years.  A member of Chauncey Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosiland Poole LaFavor; brother, Marcie LaFavor; and sister, Bernice (Charlie) Stevenson.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia Mae LaFavor, McRae; children, Waymona LaFavor (Jimmy) Edge, Helena, James Edward “Radar” (Terri) LaFavor, Rhine, and Janice G. (Terry) Davis, Gordon; brothers and sisters, Edna Harrelson, Warner Robins, Willis LaFavor, Dolly (Hubert) Morris, Barbara (Donald) Davenport, John Wayne (Connie) LaFavor, all of Helena, and Leon LaFavor, Apopka, FL; grandchildren, Shelby (Dwayne) Meeks, Jeremy Edge, Cole (Tonya) LaFavor, Kerri (Trey) Benton, Natalie Bridges and Randall (Camille) Burnham; and great-grandchildren, Hunter Meeks, Rhett Meeks, Dalton Meeks, Rebecca Kate Edge, Katie Lynn Edge, Mason LaFavor, Montgomery Benton, Justin LaFavor, Tony Lewis and Britt Bridges.
