Virginia Elizabeth McKinnon, affectionately known as Ginger, passed away on October 7, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida, at the age of 83. She was born on October 27, 1942, in Orlando, Florida.
Ginger will be remembered as a woman who was beautiful inside and out. Her life reflected kindness, caring, faithfulness, selflessness, gentleness, thoughtfulness, devotion, love, and generosity. These qualities shaped the way she lived and the way she was cherished by those around her.
Throughout her working life, Ginger served as a Branch Manager at Wells Fargo, formerly Wachovia and Fulton Federal. She also gave faithfully of her time and talents as secretary at McRae Methodist Church for a number of years, and later as office manager for McKinnon, Inc. for several years. In each role, she was known for her dedication and steady presence.
Family was at the heart of Ginger’s life. She is survived by her children, Billy McKinnon and his wife, Celese, of McRae; Susan Kerr and her husband, Joe, of St. Augustine, Florida; Robert McKinnon and his wife, April, of Statesboro; and Fred McKinnon and his wife, Joy, of St. Simons Island. She is also survived by her sisters, Barbara Teck of Stone Mountain and Patricia Allen and her husband, Proctor, of Dalton.
Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Brittany Wood and her husband, Matt; Brooke Smith and her husband, Caleb; Ethan McKinnon; Julia McKinnon; David McKinnon and his wife, Emily; Jon Michael McKinnon; Will McKinnon; Rebekah McKinnon; and Andrew McKinnon. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Jameson Wood, Jackson Wood, Billie Kate Smith, Britt Smith, and Walker McKinnon, as well as a special family member, Miracle. Several friends also survive. She leaves behind a family who will continue to carry forward the love and example she gave so freely.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Andrew McKinnon; father, Fred Mathis; her stepfather, Leland Ferguson, who raised Ginger; and her mother, Corinne Elizabeth Grimsley Ferguson.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., at Community Life Church, 202 E. Oak St., McRae, followed at 3:00 p.m. by the funeral service. Interment will be at Telfair Memorial Gardens.

Ginger’s life was a blessing to her family, her church, her coworkers, and her friends. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
