Vaunita (Fussell) Waldon

Vaunita Fussell Waldon died on Wednesday, August 23, at McRae Manor Nursing Home.  Services will be held at Blockhouse Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Georgia on Saturday, August 26, at 11:00A.M.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation is Friday,  6:00-8:00P.M.

Mrs. Waldon was born in Telfair County on October 24, 1922 to the late Minnie Hulett Fussell and William Clark Fussell.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Earl Waldon.  She was also preceded in death by her sister, Maude and 9 brothers; Jack, Henry, Robert, Ottis, Clifford, Homer, Herbert, Lamar and Preston.  Ms. Waldon graduated from Ocmulgee High School in 1940 and continued her education at Brewton Parker College and later and Georgia College.  She taught in the Telfair and Coffee County School Systems for 30 years.

All her life she was an active and supportive member of Blockhouse Baptist Church.  Ms. Waldon was a leader in W.M.U. and taught G.A.’s for many years.  She taught many different age groups in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.  She was known as a first responder in the community taking food and showing love and support to hurting families.  She was a member of the Jacksonville Lions Club and the Retired Teachers Association.

Ms. Waldon is survived by her two sons, Robert Waldon (OK Hui) of Columbus and James Waldon of Broxton and many nieces and nephews.
