Mattie Lou (Vaughn) Cravey

Mattie Lou Vaughn Cravey, 93, of Milan, died Thursday, August 11.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00A.M., Tuesday, August 16, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery.  Visitation is Monday, 6:00-9:00P.M.

A native and lifelong resident of Milan, Mrs. Cravey was the daughter of the late Joe Cleveland Vaughn and the late Nannie Rawlins Vaughn and was the wife of the late Jim Cobb Cravey.  A Telfair County school teacher for 35 years and director of the special education program for 6 years, she was twice selected as Star Teacher.  Mrs. Cravey was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where she was active in 3M Methodist Women and taught Sunday school for many years.  She earned her Masters Degree at Georgia Southwestern and was a member of the Milan Lions Club, Red Hatters (Swinging Violets), Delta Kappa Gama and the Telfair-Wheeler Retired Teachers Association.  Mrs. Cravey was preceded in death by brothers and sister, Marcus Vaughn, Marvin Vaughn, Eddie Maurice Vaughn, Marion Vaughn, Preston Vaughn and Annette Allen.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Cravey Taylor and her husband, Allen Redman Taylor; and grandson, James Johnathan “J.J.” Taylor, all of Baton Rouge, LA; and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
