Mary Marguerite (Horton) Smith
Mary Marguerite Horton Smith, 88, of McRae, died Thursday, December 25. Funeral services will be held at 2:00P.M., Tuesday, December 30 at McRae First Baptist Church with burial in Telfair Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Monday, 6:00 – 8:00P.M.
A native and lifelong resident of McRae, Ms. Smith was the daughter of the late Henry Preston Horton and Fannie Lou Gore Horton, and was the wife of the late Judson Rollo Smith. Salutatorian of her graduating class at Workmore High School, she worked as a cashier at A&P and Piggly Wiggly, then at the local cable office, working through three name changes, AT&T, Tele-Communications and Liberty Cable Company. Ms. Smith was an active member of McRae First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Wilbur Horton, son-in-law, Lloyd Chesnut, and great-grandson, Elijah Aubron Haviv.
Survivors include her daughters, Medra Smith (Ronnie) Hartley, Milledgeville, and Lucy Rollene Chesnut, Aubrey, TX; grandchildren, Judson Aubron (Randi) Hartley, Mauri Rollene (Kevin) Haviv and Leslie Alise Chesnut; and great-grandchildren, Ezra Alexander Haviv and Liam Xavier Haviv.
