A native of Sanford, FL, Jay was the son of Annis Crosby Dominey and the late John R. Dominey, Jr. He lived in McRae for much of his childhood, before moving to Tallahassee, FL, where he was a meat cutter with Winn Dixie and Publix for nearly 45 years, and was a member of Towne East Baptist Church, where he was very active, always doing whatever needed to be done. Jay graduated from Telfair County High School in 1980 and attended Young Harris College. Although he never attended FSU, he was one of their biggest fans. Jay and his wife Sandy lived in Tallahassee but bought property in Montgomery County Georgia in 2004 for their retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors, including canoeing, fishing in his pond and riding his golf buggy and walking around his & Sandy’s 17 acres. He and Sandy also enjoyed camping at the beach. Jay loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his seven grandchildren. He taught himself how to play the harmonica and learned to play it quite well. He mostly played the blues, many hymns and other church music. Jay also loved to write poems for special occasions.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy Lee Dominey of Tallahassee, FL; mother, Annis C. Dominey of McRae; son, Jayson (Jennifer) Dominey of Pownal, VT; brothers and sisters, Iris (David) Poteet of Katy, TX, Becky (Richard) Woods of Hawkinsville, John L.
