James Leon "Pee Wee" Burkhalter

James Leon “Pee Wee” Burkhalter, 65, of Alamo, died Wednesday, February 8, following a brief illness.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00A.M., Saturday, February 11, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home, McRae, with burial in the Scotland Cemetery.  Visitation is Friday, 6:00-9:00P.M.

A native of Lumber City, Mr. Burkhalter was the son of the late John Daniel Burkhalter and the late Vauneda Baggett.  He was a member of Snow Hill Community Church and was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam Era.  Mr. Burkhalter was a truck driver in the logging industry.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Marlene Burkhalter, Alamo; children, Jackie Burkhalter (Chris) Spillman, Wilson, NC and Nathan (Dana) Burkhalter, Glenwood; brothers and sisters, Herman Burkhalter, Baxley, Joyce Stafford, Alamo, Henry (Jennifer) Herrington, CA, Robert (Sheila) Herrington, Helena and Mary (Gene) Garmin, Stockbridge; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
