Effie Jo Orr

Effie Jo Orr, a cherished homemaker and devoted mother, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025, in Eastman, following an extended illness. Born on September 12,1934, in Cecil, Arkansas, Effie was raised in Charleston, Arkansas. She and her husband, Benny, later moved to Acworth where they raised their own family.  Her warmth and kindness touched many lives, and she is remembered for her loving nature and vibrant spirit.

Effie Jo was an unwavering supporter of her family, demonstrating relentless dedication as a mother and grandmother. She embraced her roles with joy, often said to have never met a stranger, and brought a sense of belonging to all who knew her. Her spirit was indomitable, having been a cancer survivor, and her resilience inspired those around her.

A proud member of Mars Hill Presbyterian Church of Acworth, Effie committed much of her life to serving her community. 

Effie Jo's life was enriched by numerous experiences, including serving on two separate mission trips to Israel. These adventures enriched her life and the lives of others, contributing to a legacy of love and service.

She is survived by her loving sons, James Mark (Cathy) Orr of Acworth, Gary Dean (Leila) Orr of Gray Court, SC, and Richard Charles Orr of Eastman; step-daughters, Vickie Harper and Nancy Thunderburk, both of Valdosta; her devoted grandson, Nicholas Orr; her great-grandson, Joseph Orr; and niece, Suzie Brooks. Several friends also survive Effie Jo, each touched by her kindness and spirit.

Effie Jo is preceded in death by her parents, Burt Dean and Daisy Bumpers Dean; her husbands, Benny Charles Orr and George Allen Sirmans; and her sister, Johnnie Dean Dickey.

Her life will be honored with a visitation on Monday, October 13, 2025, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Vaughn Funeral Home in McRae, GA. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 10:00 AM, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home.  Burial will take place at Pine Ridge Memorial Cemetery in Kennesaw, GA, Thursday, October 16, at 2:00 PM.

Effie Jo Orr's legacy of love, service, and kindness will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be profoundly missed.
