Chester Spires

Chester Spires, 84, of McRae-Helena, died peacefully Friday, April 2.  A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00P.M., Monday, April 5, at Bethlehem (Sandhill) Church Cemetery with visitation one hour prior.

A native of McRae, Mr. Spires was the son of the late Lester and Margie Scarborough Spires.  A farmer for most of his young life, he was in later life a foreman for Bluefield Dairy while living in Florida.  Mr. Spires was preceded in death by brother and sisters, Vester Spires, Faye Beasley and Betty Ryals.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Spires of McRae; children, Sylvia Spires of Okeechobee, FL, Nancy (Bobby) Merriman of Live Oak, FL and Charles Spires of McRae; brothers, Steve (Renee) Spires and Jack Spires, both of McRae; grandchildren, Tiffany (Trey) Marcum, Bobby Jr. (Megan), and Christopher (Jennifer) Merriman; and great-grandchildren, Makalyn Jones, Collin Jones, Alyssa Marcum and Kristin Merriman.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.
