Charles James "Sambo" Boone, a beloved figure in his community, passed away on August 17, 2025, in Jacksonville, Georgia. Born on June 17, 1956, in McRae, he leaves behind a rich legacy of love and family that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Inez Boone, Sambo is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Cindy Boone. Together, they built a life full of love and raised three daughters -- Kelly Boone (James) Farmer of Acworth, Stephanie Boone (Ron) Jackson of Perry, and Samantha Boone of Jacksonville, FL-- who admired their daddy for his work ethic, his wisdom, and unconditional love. Sambo also shared a special bond with his five siblings-- Jim (Susan) Boone of Jacksonville, Eloise Taylor of Donalsonville, Tom (Kam) Boone of Milan, Linda (Reggie) Lee of Diamondhead, MS, and Janice (Rocky) Hilliard of Rhine-- and spent many years farming side by side with his two brothers. A proud grandfather, he found immense joy in his grandchildren, Maddox Farmer, Bo Farmer, Colton Farmer, Presley Jackson, and Demi Dopson, all of whom will carry his memory forward.
Sambo’s life was deeply rooted in the land he loved and the cattle and horses he cherished. A true steward of the land, he dedicated his life to farming—always ready to lend a hand to a neighbor or brighten someone’s day with his unforgettable sense of humor. A natural entrepreneur, Sambo built opportunities from hard work and determination, always seeking new ways to provide for his family and community. Beyond the fields, he found joy in horseback riding, hog hunting, attending auctions and spending time with family.
Sambo’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, his friends, and in the farmland he so carefully tended. He will be remembered for his dedication, loyalty, and the deep love he carried for both his family and the land. He was the embodiment of a hardworking family man, and everyone who knew him understood that his greatest pride and joy was his family,
A visitation to honor Sambo's life will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Blockhouse Baptist Church, Jacksonville.
