Abbie Elton Harris Locke

Abbie Elton Harris Locke, of Scotland, Georgia, passed away on September 20, 2026, in Hazlehurst after an extended illness. She was born on March 3, 1935, in Alamo, Georgia. Her life spanned more than nine decades, and her memory will remain cherished by those who knew and loved her.  Abbie enjoyed fishing, gardening, sewing, cooking for those she loved, and, of course, shopping at Belk.

Abbie was a loving wife, mother, Granny Abbie, and friend.  She was a faithful member of Scotland Baptist Church.  Abbie retired after 20 years as a seamstress with Roydon Wear and 30 years of service as the Scotland City Clerk.

She was a woman whose life was deeply rooted in family. Abbie was preceded in death by her parents, Isiah Frank Elton and Ethel Estelle Richardson Elton; by her first husband, Major Lewis Harris, with whom she shared 47 years of marriage; and by her brothers and sisters, Eschol Elton, James Elton, J.T. Elton, Aaron Elton, Virgil Elton, William (Billy) Elton, and Frank Elton Jr., Imogene Elton, Annie Jackson, Elouise Elton, Elizabeth (Lilly) Whatley, Jewel Tucker, and JoAnn Moon.

She is survived by her husband, Eddie Locke, with whom she shared 22 years of marriage. She also leaves behind her daughters, Cathy (Charles "Pee Wee") Taylor of McRae and Kaye (Gregory) Wilcher of Glenwood. Her love continued through the generations in her grandchildren, Kimberly (David) Parker; Charles Taylor, Amber (Tommy) Thigpen, Kyle Wilcher and Kasey (Joseph) Page.

Abbie’s legacy is carried forward as well by her great-grandchildren, Nick Taylor (Sidney Harrelson), Tenley Thigpen, Taylor Parker, Jax Page, Bax Page, Judd Thigpen, and Kye Page. In them, and in all who called her family, her life continues in lasting and meaningful ways.  Additionally, she is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Vaughn Funeral Home of McRae. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home, followed by burial at Scotland Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Jeff Davis Hospital and Coastal Hospice for the grace, compassion, and care they provided throughout Abbie's journey.

Abbie Elton Harris Locke will be remembered with love, gratitude, and honor. Her presence was a blessing to her family, and her memory will remain a treasured part of their lives.
