Harvey Edward “Eddie” Ashley, 73, of McRae, died Saturday, October 21.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00P.M., Tuesday, October 24, at Faith Baptist Church with burial in Trinity Cemetery.  Visitation is Monday, 6:00-8:00P.M. and one hour prior to the service at Faith Baptist Church.

A native and lifelong resident of Telfair County, Mr. Ashley was the son of the late Harvey and Estelle Baughcum Ashley.  He will be remembered as the produce manager for many years and unofficial mascot of Piggly Wiggly.  A member of Faith Baptist Church and a Mason with the Helena Masonic Lodge, Mr. Ashley was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Pearl Ashley; brother, John Willie Ashley; and a grandson, James White.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Amerson Ashley of McRae; children, Sherry Lynn (Keith) Crumpton of Hazlehurst, Alicia A. (Andrew) Huffaker of Alamo, Sandy Brian (Paul) Mathis of McRae, James A. (Bethany) Mathis of Kingsland and Susan (Noe) Salazar of McRae; sister, Janet A. (Weston) Evans of McRae; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
