Billy Purvis, 85, of Alamo, died Wednesday, October 31, following an illness. A funeral service will be held at 4:00P.M., Saturday, November 3, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home, McRae, with burial at Alamo Memorial Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, 6:00-9:00P.M.
A native and lifelong resident of Wheeler County, Mr. Purvis was the son of the late Elbert and Mattie White Purvis, and was married to the late Mable Evelyn Evans Purvis. The well-respected patriarch of the Purvis family, and a logger and farmer for most of his life, he was the owner and operator of B.P. Timber, LLC. Mr. Purvis was an Army veteran and was preceded in death by a grandson, Chad Miller; great-grandson, Chandler Alexander; sister, Eva Blount; and brothers, Ed Purvis, Clifford Purvis, Walter Purvis, Fred Purvis, Nelson Purvis, Wade Purvis and Ray Purvis.
Survivors include his children, Randy (Gail) Purvis, Keith Purvis and Shelia (Derris) Spires, all of Alamo;; brothers and sisters, Geneva (Dupree) Hulett of Macon, Martha (Clinton) Stovall, Tommy (Frances) Purvis and Don (Mildred) Purvis, all of Alamo; sisters-in-law, Mildred Purvis of Macon, Mary Sue Guinn and Jewell Horne, both of Alamo; grandchildren, Robbie (Sherry) Carroll, Lori (William) Purvis, Billy Gene (Jennifer) Purvis, P.J. (Dusty) Phillips, Chad (Katie) Spires and Tiffany Spires (Kason Edwards); great-grandchildren, Kasie (Justin) Smith, Maegan Carroll, Kaylee Carroll, Paul Browning, Joshua (Melissa) Browning, Adam (Bethany) Browning, Luke Browning, Jacob (Christina) Hale, Noah Hale, Gracie Mae Purvis, Mallorie (Dylan) Walsh, Taylor Purvis, Dustin Purvis, Colden Purvis, Dakota Miller, Anslee Purvis, Natalee Phillips, Ace Phillips, Ross Spires , Addie Mae Spires and Evelyn Spires; and great-great-grandchildren, Everleigh Smith and Jonah Browning. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
